Many years ago I was staying in the house of a stranger for a week. I had only been there for a few days when I remarked to her: "You have something I want. What is it?" She replied, "Christian Science." I asked her what that was, and she said that it was Christianity complete with its healing activity. She loaned me a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, which I read and then put aside, as I felt it was too idealistic to be practical. But the seed of Truth had been sown; and some years later, when our four-year-old daughter nearly died from a heart attack, I recommended to my husband that we try Christian Science, and he agreed.

We found a practitioner, and she asked me if I knew anything about Science. I said that I did not, but that our little girl was just recovering from one of her frequent heart attacks for which she had been in the care of many doctors from birth and which were pronounced quite incurable; so we felt we were ready to try anything. She asked me if I thought God was Love, and I replied very definitely, "No." I felt that to afflict a child like that was not love.

She replied gently, "God is Love; and He did not do it, so you need not accept it."
