The Role of Justice

The attributes of God play great roles in the drama of human life. As we scan the Bible, we see how these attributes gradually made their entrance on the human scene. The fidelity of Abraham, the insight of Jacob, the purity of Joseph, the moral power of Moses, the spiritual discernment of prophets, the love of Jesus— all of these God-derived strengths were established in human understanding as elements of the man God made.

Every one of these attributes involved the proof of divine justice. There they are, known and cherished through centuries as succeeding generations of those who loved God intuitively sought unity with Him through reflecting His nature. And Godlike attributes will never be expunged from human consciousness. They are here to stay.

The love which Jesus demonstrated invariably expressed the justice of God, for justice and love are inseparable. They characterize the law of God, the force which is His will and which governs His creation. Divine justice cannot prevent evil from punishing itself, but it can destroy evil and its consequences once there is sufficient repentance and regeneration to make this healing possible.
