Several years ago Christian Science...

Several years ago Christian Science was presented to me by a friend whose great affection I especially appreciated during a difficult period of trial, I was willing to study this religion, which teaches us that "God is love" (I John 4: 16), and throughout the years proofs of this love have been manifested. Here are two of them.

At about the time that I began studying Christian Science through its textbook. Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, it became necessary for my mother and me to change our apartment. But to human sense this proved to be very difficult for it was necessary, among other things, to make a sale and a purchase simultaneously. After taking the necessary human steps, I consulted a Christian Science practitioner, who helped me to understand the true meaning of the word "home." He explained to me that man lives in the consciousness of God, divine Love. He brought these words of Jesus to my attention (John 14:2): "In my Father's house are many mansions."

At the end of about twelve months, during which the practitioner supported me with much patience. Mother and I had found a buyer who allowed us some little time in which to leave the apartment. Well before the end of the allotted period, we were in possession of a beautiful apartment which met our needs exactly and was situated in a truly lovely suburb with all amenities. The various transactions which this change had made necessary all ended harmoniously, for "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need," as Mrs. Eddy tells us on page 494 of the textbook.

I now wish to tell of a healing of tracheitis for which I am also very grateful. One winter I manifested the symptoms of this disease, and when the condition did not improve, in spite of my prayerful metaphysical work, I felt it wise to stay at home one day in order to pray more earnestly. The next day, the situation appearing rather worse, I decided to prolong this stay at home, and I sent for a doctor so that he could fill out the papers required by the company where I work. The doctor made out a prescription.

At that time the practitioner whose services I usually engage was traveling in a distant country, and I had not been able to ask him for help. I also had heavy family cares; so I was feeling very tired. During the first few days after the doctor's visit my consecrated work still brought no change, and, very much discouraged. I was suddenly tempted by the drugs listed on the prescription.

However, I had already had healings in Christian Science, and I thought that I had thoroughly understood matter's powerlessness. In my confusion I telephoned one evening to a close friend, also a Scientist, to ask her for help and explained my state of mind to her. She said to me with much love, but also very firmly, that I was free to do whatever I wished, but that if I took the drugs, I would be giving reality to matter, and I would go backward instead of making progress spiritually. She added: "Think about it. I am going to help you." Her words woke me up, the temptation was overcome, and I took my stand for Truth.

The next day I was led by God to listen to a recording of Mrs. Eddy's hymns, and I sang, in spite of my difficulties, along with the soloist. As the hymns were being played, it became easier for me to sing loudly and with joy. At the end of the record, I knew I was healed. The physical conditions improved rapidly and I was able to go back to work when the period of absence authorized by the doctor was up. This experience has been enriching.

I give glory to God for all His benefits. I express my deep gratitude for Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and for Mrs. Eddy, who courageously followed the Way in order to give Christian Science to the world, I am very grateful to the whole Christian Science movement.—(Miss) Simone Nicolas, Le Pecq (Seine-et-Oise), France.
