The structure of religion associates you with ultimate authority and thereby gives you complete security. The more insecure you are, the more rigid you have to be, the more dogmatic, the more ritualistic, not departing one iota from what you feel is the truth. To nudge such a person in any direction disturbs him deeply. I think this is true of all religions that have a conversion intent.

Jesus... said, "If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God." So here you have experience as the basis of an understanding of truth.
