In May, 1948, after I had been feeling ill for a long time and absent from my work a great deal, I was required by my employer to have a physical checkup.

I made an appointment with a doctor I had known for several years. After the examination he told me that I had a tumor. He gave me specific details and explained that if I didn't have the tumor removed by surgery my good days would become fewer and fewer. He picked up the telephone and made arrangements for an operation, date and all. He also requested that my husband come to his office and talk with him about my condition. What the doctor had to say alarmed me greatly.

My mother was a sincere student of Christian Science, and I had depended upon her a great deal for help whenever a problem arose. I was a student of Science also and had experienced several healings. I wrote to my mother and asked her to help me, but she recommended that I call a practitioner.
