THE HUNDREDTH SHEEP

He is not lost who, though he stray,
continues searching for the way;
nor is he lost who wars with sin
and prays,
and listens and obeys.

And even he who stubbornly
follows his will downhill,
convinced his is the only course,
will be redeemed by Love's firm force.

And so it is that the ninety and nine
who follow their Shepherd in orderly line
rejoice to know the Shepherd's deep,
impartial love is so complete,
foes cannot actually steal a sheep—
merge him in sin and bind and steal him—
or cast him into sickness where
his Shepherd cannot find and heal him!
