"I know whence I came"

The questions, Where do we come from? and, Where are we going? have been a matter of controversial conjecture throughout the history of mankind. The answers were made clear by Mrs. Eddy in her discovery of Christian Science.

Realizing the great need of mankind to know their true origin and all that it implies, Mrs. Eddy wrote the textbook, Science and Health, which is in conformity with the Biblical teaching that man is the child of God. On page 63 of this book she states: "In Science man is the offspring of Spirit. The beautiful, good, and pure constitute his ancestry. His origin is not, like that of mortals, in brute instinct, nor does he pass through material conditions prior to reaching intelligence. Spirit is his primitive and ultimate source of being; God is his Father, and Life is the law of his being."

As we daily claim our spiritual relationship to God, we demonstrate freedom in our human experience, freedom from the restrictions of the material senses. These restrictions would try to tell us that we are incapable of handling the duties of a particular job, that we are not intelligent enough to pass an examination at school, that we are not strong enough to participate in some field of athletics, or that we are too old to be useful. All of these restrictions are self-imposed and are the results of our mistaken beliefs about our origin.
