"Moral courage is requisite"
[Of Special Interest to Young Men and Women]
Whether we realize it or not, we all need moral courage in facing difficult situations. Moral courage is that quality of thought which enables us to encounter adversities and dangers with firmness. It shows a readiness on our part to stand up for what is in accord with our highest sense of right. It indicates unintimidated confidence to act in accordance with our convictions as well as self-forgetful devotion to some great cause or purpose.
Throughout the Bible we find reports of great men and women who displayed the quality of moral courage to a remarkable degree. Moses was one of these. He at first seemed overwhelmed with the vastness of his divinely appointed task to lead the children of Israel out of their bondage under Egyptian domination. But strengthened through prayerful communion with God, who had revealed Himself to him as the great I AM, he bravely faced every adverse circumstance and thus was able to fulfill his mission with God-derived courage and vigor.
The Ten Commandments revealed by Moses to the children of Israel as a measuring rod for their motives and actions, are widely accepted today as a necessary and beneficial standard of behavior. When obeyed, they greatly improve the relations between individuals, races, and nations.
