I have had the joy and freedom...
I have had the joy and freedom of living with the companionship of Christian Science for many years and most sincerely testify to the unending gratitude I feel for all the healings and blessings that I have experienced during that time.
I had been studying Mrs. Eddy's wonderful book Science and Health for more than a year but had hardly learned to rely on God's great power and love when my first big test came. I was in Leicester, England, where I was due to play a major singing part in a show; and as I neared the theater an extremely painful throat from which I had been suffering was no better, although I had been praying as best I knew how.
I was tempted to go to my manager to let him see the impossibility to let him see the impossibility of my appearing on the stage. But the thought of the fiasco this would cause shocked me, and I wanted so much to be a Christian Scientist. I was despairing, but I went on to the theater, hoping still that I would be healed in time to sing.
