Sometime ago I sustained injuries ...

Sometime ago I sustained injuries outside a public library and was taken inside suffering from a badly cut head and a severely injured arm. The library staff were very kind and allowed their telephone to be used for a call to a Christian Science practitioner.

When I reached home, the practitioner was informed of the almost unendurable pain that I was experiencing. She did specific prayerful work immediately, and in about an hour the pain had disappeared. Although for considerable time much discomfort was experienced, there was never any return of excessive pain. The head was completely healed by the end of the second week, but the healing of a broken arm and collarbone and of a dislocated shoulder took approximately six months.

At the time of the incident, those around me urged hospital treatment as quickly as possible, but I was so confident of the truth of Mrs. Eddy's words (Science and Health, p. 228), "There is no power apart from God," that I knew there was no need to resort to surgery either for stitches or for bone setting.

It would take far too much space to relate in detail the unfoldment that took place during the six months before the complete healing was manifested, and it would be quite impossible to express in words my gratitude for all I learned and am still learning from this experience.

Mrs. Eddy's works were a continual source of inspiration. A constant support were the words (ibid., p. 207): "There is but one primal cause. Therefore there can be no effect from any other cause, and there can be no reality in aught which does not proceed from this great and only cause."

Except for the first two weeks, I was able to continue to serve as Second Reader in a branch church, and I am grateful for the work done by the practitioner which helped to make this possible.

For Christ Jesus, who led the way in spiritual healing, and for Mrs. Eddy, whose teachings have inspired men and women the world over to devote their lives to the same Christ-healing, I am sincerely grateful.—(Miss) Ethel Hedley, Bromley, Kent, England.
