Mrs. Eddy tells us (Science and Health, Pref., p vii),...
Mrs. Eddy tells us (Science and Health, Pref., p vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." Every day of my life has been "big with blessings." Throughout my entire experience my knowledge and understanding of God, gained through the study of Christian Science, have sustained me. I am deeply grateful for all the faithful Sunday School teachers who so lovingly taught me the truths which have guided me for so many years.
My physical difficulties have been few; however, each has been met promptly when the allness of God, divine Mind, and the nothingness of error and erroneous thinking were recognized. One such difficulty presented itself during the period of time when I was driving a great distance to attend graduate school classes.
A large carbuncle appeared on my face. I seemed to be making very little progress in overcoming this error until finally my thinking was aroused to realize that it was a sense of false pride which had prevented my calling a practitioner for help. I had secured help from practitioners several times when our two boys were having physical problems, but I had never needed any assistance in meeting my own disturbances.
Immediately I called a practitioner and was heartened by her words of reassurance. But the fear developed that I would be left with scars on my face. I remembered the practitioner's statement concerning the unreality of the image I was seeing in the mirror and immediately rebandaged my face and began to work to over-come this new fear.
Three weeks later I was able to serve as substitute Second Reader in a branch church as scheduled and with no necessity for a bandage. The healing left my face unscarred.
Christian Science played a major part in the completion of the requirements for my master's degree. My thorough acceptance of the truth that man is the perfect representation of divine Mind and that intelligence is never limited had enabled me to complete high school and college with a good record.
It was fifteen years after my completion of the bachelor's degree that I decided to begin work on my master's degree. To mortal sense there were numerous obstacles in my path. First, the university was sixty-five miles from my home; second, keeping house for my husband and two young boys, plus teaching high school, seemed to leave very little time for study.
However, by earnestly listening for God's guidance, I was led to the proper solution and completion of each problem, each test, and each term paper. I was sustained through the long arduous task of conducting the research for my thesis and was given the strength needed to complete it on time.
The last hurdle to surmount was the two-hour oral examination. Mortal mind tried to present all kinds of fearsome pictures those few days before it was scheduled. Two of the professors on the committee were highly regarded experts in their fields, and I envisioned all sorts of ominous reactions from them.
On the morning of the examination as I was preparing to leave to drive to the university, divinely inspired words came to me as the answer to my prayer for guidance. They are (Prov. 3:5, 6): "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." I dwelt on them as I drove along. After the examination my adviser expressed amazement over the harmonious atmosphere that had prevailed.
I am truly appreciative of the wonderful words of encouragement I have gained through the years from the study of the Lesson-Sermons, given in the Christian Science Quarterly, and from the periodicals. For the privilege of serving in numerous church offices, for the enriching experience of serving on a church building committee, for the opportunity to serve my family and community, I am humbly grateful. It is impossible for me to imagine or conceive what my life would be without the Bible and the works of Mrs. Eddy to show me the way.— (Mrs.) Jeanne R. Jackson,
