I shall always be grateful to...
I shall always be grateful to the dear person who, during my childhood, gave my sister a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. This new book aroused in me a feeling that this was a religion that was different. My interest in the church of my parents' choice had been lukewarm. Some years later when my parents decided to attend a Church of Christ, Scientist, I was very much pleased, because I felt that here was something that was practical.
My first healing took place when I still knew very little about Christian Science. I had been suffering for several days from inflammation of the eyes, and my mother, being very fearful, had said that if there was no improvement in the morning I would have to see a doctor.
When there was no evidence of any change the next morning, I asked her to let me call a practitioner. With her consent I immediateiy asked for help, and the healing took place in a couple of hours. This new way of treating human ills seemed wonderful to me. Until that time visits to the medicine cabinet and the family doctor had been frequent and regular.
Some cars ago a very painful condition appeared on the bottom of one of my feet, I had done some prayerful work about it, but there was no relief; and finally after several months I decided to call a practitioner. Treatment was given for more than a mouth.
Then a member of my family recommended that I call on a well-known foot doctor who practiced in the same building as the practitioner, I relayed this recommendation to the practitioner, and she recalled to me Joshua's words to the children of Israel (24:15), "Choose you this day whom ye will serve."
In thinking this over I decided to continue with Christian Science help. When the practitioner received my answer she said: "Now stop feeling sorry for yourself. Be grateful to God for all the good that you have received, and count your blessings."
As I lifted up my thought in this way, the foot condition disappeared. In a very short time I was again walking normally. I am indeed grateful.
My children, now adults, have benefited from Christian Science, and I am grateful that my grandchildren are having the privilege of attending Sunday School. Christian Science has been my only philosophy and medicine for years. Many blessings have been mine when I have forgotten self and have served others.
I am grateful for all the good that my family and I have received and for the consecrated help given by the practitioners to everyone. My gratitude to God for His loving-kindness, for Christ Jesus, our Exemplar, and for Mrs. Eddy, who so unselfishly gave this wonderful religion to the world, is boundless.
I am a member of The Mother Church and of a branch church, and I have had the privilege of class instruction.— (Mrs.) Helen C. Warner,
