As soon as I was old enough to...

As soon as I was old enough to be accepted, I was enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School. That was the beginning of one of the more rewarding experiences of my life. Regular Sunday School attendance and the daily study at an early age of the Lesson-Sermons, from the Christian Science Quarterly, established the basis for the unfoldment of blessings which have extended far beyond the Sunday School years. I should like to express my gratitude to God for the Sunday School, for the teachers, and especially for our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who was guided by divine wisdom to make this provision for the spiritual enlightenment of young people.

Many young people today are seeking greater freedom of expression. I can testify to the fact that adherence to the teachings of Christian Science in our home brought an atmosphere where, when I was a teen-ager, freedom of thought and action was encouraged but where obedience to Principle was always the standard of conduct.

When I was about twelve years old, I became ill with asthma. When the symptoms first appeared, they were only mildly troublesome. However, as the weeks went by, it became obvious that the condition was growing worse. Ultimately, I had to be taken out of school and confined to bed most of the time. A practitioner who had helped me from time to time was called and regular Christian Science treatment was begun.
