Only One Source of True Thoughts

Christian Science affirms that there is but one Mind and that this Mind is God. Therefore the only source from which man, Mind's likeness, receives thoughts is God, omnipresent good. The world has yet to learn that matter or brain is not the source of thoughts or ideas. Mrs. Eddy states in Science and Health (p. 468): "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all."

As Christian Scientists, we are daily finding that the real man is not subject to the mortal so-called law which claims that sinful thoughts and evil motives are natural to us and that it is difficult, if not impossible, for us to resist them. Since the infinitely good and intelligent God is the only Mind, and we are Gods spiritual children, we can receive only good, intelligent, loving, pure, useful, and interesting thoughts. As we daily claim our exemption from false law and acknowledge that we are subject to God's law alone and that there is but one Mind, one source of thought, we find ourselves more and more effortlessly taking in and expressing right thoughts and ideas.

Mortal mind would have us believe that because of bodily processes or because of conditions in our environment, we cannot stop ourselves from thinking sinful or fearful or sickly thoughts. Christian Science teaches us that our true identity is the individual, spiritual consciousness, which is the perfect reflection of perfect God, Soul, and eternally expresses the wholesome activity of God. The material concept of environment, like the material concept of body, is an illusion—a counterfeit —of our only real environment, God's spiritual kingdom. An illusion cannot cause or control our thoughts when we see that it is an illusion.
