When our daughter was a...

When our daughter was a young girl, she began to have attacks of quinsy in the winter. Her father, not interested in Christian Science, insisted on having a doctor for her. The third time this occurred, the child asked to have help in Christian Science, and with my husband's agreement I called a practitioner.

At first the trouble did not yield, and the appearances were alarming. My husband did not want me to leave the child, so he went one evening to telephone the practitioner. There were only two telephones in our town then. When he returned he said: "I told the practitioner that if the child is not better by morning, I shall call a doctor. He said that it was my privilege to do so but that there would be a change in her condition."

That night I spent grateful hours reading the Bible, together with Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Finally I went to bed and slept soundly. In the morning the child was noticeably improved and was able to eat food for the first time in three days. Her complete recovery soon followed, and this condition has never appeared again.

At one time I began to experience a recurring pain in the upper part of one arm whenever I used that arm. As the pain increased, I knew I must search my thinking. I spent an evening studying the chapter entitled "Genesis" in Science and Health. This study so uplifted my thinking, enabling me to see God's perfect creation, that on the following day when the pain returned, I saw its unreality and joyfully realized that "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good" (Gen. 1:31).

Several times during the day the pain tried to present itself, but each time gratitude for God's perfect creation brought relief. Each time the pain became less until it ceased altogether. From that day on, I have been entirely free from it.

I am grateful for the protective power of Truth. Someone remarked to me that I never had headaches. I realized that for years F had not experienced a headache, whereas in earlier years I had occasionally suffered in that way.

At one time the family finances dwindled. No work was available, and my husband was in despair, I would have been downcast also if I hadn't had Christian Science to help me. One day as I went about my housework, I remember feeling very close to God. I knew I had been faithful in studying and trying to spiritualize my thoughts.

My heart cried out to God, "What can I do?" Then these words from the thirtieth chapter of Isaiah (verse 21) came to my consciousness: "This is the way, walk ye in it." I had not read them for a long time. At first I was astonished at this answer, but I decided I must be doing the right kind of thinking. I redoubled my efforts in studying Christian Science and in attaining a more spiritual sense of supply. Soon our needs were filled in small ways. Then both my husband and I found work.

For these and many other experiences in which God's loving help was proved available. I am very grateful. It is a privilege to serve in various capacities in a Christian Science Society. I feel great gratitude for Mrs. Eddy, who revealed the practical meaning of the teachings of Christ Jesus, our beloved Master.— (Mrs.) Marie B. Heath, Hope, Idaho.
