Signs of the Times

The Reverend Dr. J. Lester Harnish President, American Baptist Convention
in the Christian Herald New York, New York

Stop being rebellious, being frustrated, bewildered, defiant, lonely and meaningless. You should surrender yourself to the sovereign will of God. Got! marches majestically through time....March with God—stop fighting Him. Really mean it when you pray, "Thy will be done." We say it every week in church. Undoubtedly, you pray it many times during the week. But do you do it? How meaningful is it? Make the Heavenly Father's will your concern. Don't be outside it, or above it, or pushing against it, battering your head into insensibility.

It's great to talk about the sovereign will of God. How can you know it? May I suggest that first of all, you have to be willing to know and do the will of God. ...Have you ever had the experience of somebody asking. "Well, how are you today?" You start to tell him, but he isn't listening. Well, this is the way with us. We say, "Lord, what do you want me to do?" The Lord starts to tell us, but we aren't listening. First of all we have to be willing to be made sincere. We see the road ahead best with a clean windshield.
