RADIO PROGRAM No. 182 - Does God Answer Prayer?

QUESTIONER: Many people are doubtful that prayer is answered. Often there seems to be no tangible evidence of an answer. Do you think that there is any way of knowing that our prayers will be answered?
SPEAKER: I'm sure there is. There are many instances in the Bible which show that God hears and answers unselfish prayer. For example, we read that Daniel was thrown in to the lions' den. He prayed to God, and his prayer was most certainly answered. He came out of the den unharmed.

A shining example for us is the way in which Christ Jesus prayed and taught his followers to pray. We find in Christian Science that the works that were done in those Bible times are still possible, and similar works are being carried out here and now today.

You see in Christian Science prayer is the becoming aware of God's presence. We read in Psalms (139:7), "Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?" And we read from that Psalm that God is indeed everywhere present. As we learn more of the nature of God as Spirit, Love, which the Bible tells us He is, and see man's indestructible relationship with God and constantly live in accordance with these divine facts, then that is true prayer.
