WORDS OF CURRENT INTEREST
[The words in this issue are related to the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly designated to be read in Christian Science churches on August 30, 1964.]
There shall come forth a rod Out of the stem of Jesse and a Branch shall grow Out of his (Isa. 11:1)
Jesse (jes'e—first e as in end, second as in event) was the father of King David, who in turn was often regarded as the type or forerunner of the Master, who was often called "Son of David." Philips well translates the verse as follows: "Out of the felled stump of Jesse a shoot shall spring, Out of his roots a strong sapling shall rise."
Fatling (Isa. 11:6)
