For years the seeming futility of...
For years the seeming futility of existence had so depressed me that without any hope of happiness I believed my sole duty consisted in being a wife and mother. In 1949 the difficulties in the family had reached such a point that I awaited each day with anxiety. However, something remarkable happened which from then on was to fill me with sincere gratitude for Mrs. Eddy as well as for all her inspired writings. Under a pile of magazines in a dentist's waiting room, I found several copies of The Herald of Christian Science, German Edition.
The reading of these articles kindled in me indescribable joy, such as I had never before known, so that the entire burden of daily life fell away. It was as though an invisible hand had turned me around 180 degrees to show me everything in a new light. Suddenly I realized also that all that is inharmonious, diseased, and ugly concerning man is a lie. With remarkable assurance, hitherto unknown, and without wanting any confirmation from anyone, I knew that the contents of the Herald were true. My heart rejoiced.
Through the recognition of spiritual being and the inexpressible joy it called forth, I found my thought lifted to such an extent that in just a few days the healing of inharmonious conditions in the family was made manifest, as was that of my husband, who had a stomach disorder from which he had suffered for twelve years. He was able to eat all that was set before him without suffering the slightest discomfort.
