Obeying the Law of Progress

Christian Science teaches us to think only of good because God is good and is All. There is nothing else really to think about. But to assume that we are thinking of good when our thoughts are cluttered with evil is to deceive ourselves. Christian Science teaches us how to overcome evil and thus to contemplate and demonstrate reality.

To the Christian Scientist the body and blood of Christ Jesus are the truth and life he taught and lived. Speaking of the bread and the cup which Jesus served to his disciples at the Last Supper, Paul said (I Cor. 11:27, 28): "Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat that bread, and drink of that cup."

The Christ, Truth, is the true idea of God, in which all is perfect and harmonious. Life is divine Mind, Principle, Love, in which is no sin, disease, discord, or death. We must partake of this Truth, and we must live this Life. But we must do more than merely repeat words. Our thoughts must be truly spiritual, and our lives must embody the qualities of the one Mind. Constant progress in this direction is obedience to the law of Truth. Through such progress alone are we worthy to repeat the words of Truth, for such progress demonstrates that we honestly desire to attain perfection.
