The Christian Science Pavilion at the New York World's Fair
The New York World's Fair, the largest exposition of its kind ever to be held, opened on April 22 at Flushing Meadows, Long Island, New York. Seventy million visitors are expected. It will continue through October 18 of this year and will be open from April 21 through October 17 next year.
Christian Science is represented at the Fair by the Christian Science Pavilion, an attractive and unusual building in the form of a seven-pointed star. A diamond-shaped translucent sky-dome lets in daylight, and illuminated at night it serves as a landmark.
This presentation of our religion is under the direction of the Committee for Christian Science Activities, World's Fair, 1964-1965, a committee made up of members from branch churches in the New York City area. The Mother Church, branch churches and societies east of the Mississippi River, and individual Christian Scientists have provided generous financial support. Other branches throughout the world have also contributed.
