Trials Bloom as Blessings

In Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy makes this interesting observation: "Trials are proofs of God's care" (p. 66). The following experiences show that the circumstances which seem trying to church memberships often prove to be blessings in disguise. These very trials serve to awaken the members to the mesmeric nature of the conditions confronting them and to their ability to resolve these difficulties through prayerful metaphysical work, with right human footsteps unfolding as the result of this work.

A branch church in England tells of two disturbing situations which were happily resolved:

Its Wednesday evening testimony meetings had been harassed by the bell-ringing practice of a nearby church of another denomination. A loving request that the time of this practice period be altered had been met with the reply that since the bell ringers had practiced on that evening for years, the Christian Science church should shift its meeting day. Later a change of personnel among those in authority at the neighboring church took place, and it seemed right to approach them on this subject. The request was met with an understanding response. The bell ringers switched their practice time to another evening, thereby enabling the testimony meetings to be held in a peaceful atmosphere.
