Fullness of Joy
When Jesus knew that his time had come, he spoke to his disciples many comforting words. For example, he said, "These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full" (John 15:11). This he said when he was about to leave them. Obviously, the joy he promised was the joy of knowing the truth of man's eternal being.
When I was a little girl, I had many pets, and they were my great joy. But the duckling grew up, and the lamb became a sheep, and the time of parting came. Then my joy turned into sorrow.
Earthly joys often end in grief. This faulty sense of joy is part of the Adam-dream, the illusion that good can be limited or conditioned by matter, It is the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, of which Adam was commanded not to eat.
