Susan Helps Mother
[Of Special Interest to Children]
One Friday Susan and Paul ran across the playground. The bell had rung, and school was out. "Come on. Let's hurry home!" Susan said. "I can't wait to tell Mother our good news."
Paul lived across the street from Susan, and they usually walked home together. But today they didn't walk; they ran. The wind blew Susan's hair. It felt cold against her face. She liked running in the wind, down the hill, to Paul's house. With a wave to Paul she ran across the street and up the front steps two at a time.
"Mother! I'm home!" The door slammed shut behind her.
