Reverse Every Symptom

God is Life, Truth, Love. He is always expressing Himself in His perfect idea, immortal man. The qualities of God's expression are infinite. They include health, dominion, joy, purity, freedom, energy, and so on. When one does not feel well, has a sense of being a victim of circumstances, feels depressed, nervous, tired, he can prevent the development of such a symptom into a disease by being alert to recognize it as a suggestion that some power other than Life, Truth, and Love is acting in his experience.

Understanding that God is All, one recognizes the symptom as a lie about God. One who loves God above all else will not stand for such a lie, will not tolerate it for one instant, and will not ignore it as unworthy of attention. Every symptom of disease deserves attention just as an error in mathematics deserves correction. The lie must be eradicated from thought, and it must be replaced by the truth. Symptoms are lies told by the carnal, or mortal, mind. They are destroyed when we understand this mind to be false and when we expose the symptom and its source for the lie and liar they are.

But this exposition demands more than merely calling names; it demands an active expression of the truth. On page 392 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy says: "The physical affirmation of disease should always be met with the mental negation. Whatever benefit is produced on the body, must be expressed mentally, and thought should be held fast to this ideal."
