"His leaf also shall not wither"

Speaking of the man whose "delight is in the law of the Lord" (Ps. 1:2), the Psalmist declared, "He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper."

To grow and be fruitful, a tree needs moisture and cannot live without it. Likewise, to progress in the understanding and demonstration of Truth, a Christian Scientist needs inspiration, the breath of Life. Through inspiration he takes into his consciousness the elements that are essential to his spiritual growth and fruitfulness —elements such as intelligence, purity, integrity, unselfed love, and delight "in the law of the Lord." Spiritual inspiration holds him safe in the divine law, whereby he is preserved from the lawless influence of the carnal mind, which "is enmity against God" (Rom. 8:7).

One who meditates on the divine law, and delights in it, brings into his relationship with others a vitalizing influence which actuates loving cooperation and brings out the best in everyone. Those who delight in the law of Love are invariably brought together to their mutual advantage. When such a group of individuals work together in a Church of Christ, Scientist, their unified effort makes the church fruitful in good works.
