WORDS OF CURRENT INTEREST
[The words in this issue are related to the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly designated to be read in Christian Science churches on April 7, 1963.]
I give tithes of all that I possess (Luke 18:12)
Literally, "... of all that I get," that is, of his income, not of his capital. The Mosaic law ordained that tithes should be paid of corn, wine, oil, and cattle (Num. 18:24; Deut. 14:22, 23). In thus claiming to pay tithes of all his income, the Pharisee is boasting of exceeding the written law.
They ... enlarge the borders (Matt. 23:5)
