About thirty-eight years ago...
About thirty-eight years ago that wonderful book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, was given to me to read. At that time I was suffering from a serious condition of the heart and was destined to lead a quiet life with very little activity. I read the textbook and was healed; from then on, the Christ, Truth, has been my only physician.
The first page of the chapter on Prayer is one I shall always remember, for it was like a light shining in the darkness. It begins as follows (p. 1): "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love." I am sure those words, which I knew to be true, inspired my healing. After that I continued to study the textbook and tried to understand what I was reading and to apply it when I needed to overcome some discord or ailment. It never failed.
Many healings were experienced through the help of a practitioner, and they were mostly quick healings. Some were brought about through my own work. Each morning before studying the Lesson-Sermon, provided in the Christian Science Quarterly, I prayed for more spiritual understanding and to know God better.
