Because of my never-ending...

Because of my never-ending gratitude for the precious Christ, Truth, which our Master, Christ Jesus, gave to the world and which was again revealed to us by Mrs. Eddy, and for all the healings I have received through the faithful prayers of practitioners and from my own study and application of Truth, I wish to relate some of these healings, hoping they may be encouraging to others.

My mother was healed of Bright's disease after the doctor had said he did not believe she would be with us more than two months. She turned to Christian Science and began studying Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. With the help of a practitioner, she soon received her complete and permanent healing and was with us thirty years more.

Later I was in need of healing of an illness which the doctors had been unable to name, and I asked the same practitioner to pray for me. This healing was published in an issue of the Sentinel in 1903.

Before taking up the study of Christian Science I went to an eye doctor, who diagnosed my difficulty as astigmatism and gave me glasses, stating that I would always have to wear them. Some time after my first healing I was able to discontinue wearing them, my eyesight having become normal.

I became a member of The Mother Church and a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. Three years later I served as First Reader, studying the weekly Bible Lessons, given in the Christian Science Quarterly, three times daily, besides preparing the readings for every Wednesday evening testimony meeting, and I had complete freedom without glasses. I am grateful I was able to serve as Reader for three years without missing a service.

Many years later I was doing some very exacting secretarial work and again put on glasses. After a while they became uncomfortable. One day as I was studying the lesson, the following question from Science and Health stood out as though in large print (p. 489): "How can man, reflecting God, be dependent on material means for knowing, hearing, seeing?" This lifted my thought to see that spiritual sense is man's true sight. I also dwelt on these statements: "Sight, hearing, all the spiritual senses of man, are eternal. They cannot be lost. Their reality and immortality are in Spirit and understanding, not in matter,—hence their permanence" (ibid., p. 486). I soon received my complete healing. At the age of eighty I can read fine print freely.

Another healing was that of constipation. The pain at times was quite severe; but I told no one of it and turned my thought to Truth. One day as I was working prayerfully to rise above it, the truth came to me very clearly that Mind governs all activity. Instantly I felt an adjustment taking place, and the condition was healed.

Before marrying I had turned to God for guidance, and it was a demonstration of harmony. At my husband's passing, an experience I had thought I could not go through, I was beautifully sustained and healed of sorrow with the prayerful help of a practitioner and the knowledge that Life is eternal and indestructible.

Words cannot wholly express my gratitude for membership in The Mother Church and the happy privilege of serving in a branch church, for class instruction, and for the provision which Mrs. Eddy made in the Manual of The Mother Church for the yearly association meetings, which are so inspiring and helpful. I am grateful for the spiritual interpretation of the Bible, found in Science and Health, and for our daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly periodicals.
