Joel Uses His Lessons

[Of Special Interest to Children]

When Joel was quite young, his mother and father enrolled him in the Christian Science Sunday School. Here he learned that there is just one God. He also learned many Bible stories which told of God's loving care for His children.

One Sunday the teacher reminded Joel and the other pupils in the class of the way their mothers and fathers closed the door as they all left the house; this was done to keep anyone from coming in uninvited and disturbing the things inside. She said that the pupils likewise must close the door of their thinking to error, to wrong thoughts and beliefs, and then open the door to let Truth and Love come in. Joel could understand why he needed to watch the door of his own thoughts to keep anything unlike God, good, from coming in to disturb his thinking.

Later on, Joel was able to stand guard at the door and let Love come in to heal and bless him. It was a warm summer's day, and Joel was barefoot, playing in a neighbor's yard. While running and jumping, he stepped on a board which had a nail in it, pointing up, and the nail went deeply into his foot. Joel knew that he must not accept this wrong thought of an accident but that he must stand guard at the door, letting only Love come in. He then was able to free his foot from the board and nail.
