I was ill in bed, suffering from influenza, on the day that my husband had planned to attend an important party. I was a new student of Christian Science and called a practitioner, saying: "I can't go. I can't get out of bed." To my amazement the practitioner recommended I get up and get dressed. I argued that I could not even put one foot on the floor. She replied that she would pray for me and that I could therefore safely get dressed.

Shortly I found myself dressed and following my husband out into the crisp, dark, winter night. The glowing radiance of the stars filled my heart with gratitude as I thought that God is the Mind holding the spiritual idea of every star and planet in its place and that likewise He maintains and cares for man. In that instant all symptoms of disease disappeared, and obvious health took their place.

At the party a friend inquired why I was not drinking, and this alerted me to the fact that all desire to drink had left me. I was grateful to hear the friend say: "Keep it up. You have no idea how many of us would like to stop drinking too."
