RADIO PROGRAM No. 12 - Finding Yourself in Today's World
HOST: Sooner or later all of us run into the need for knowing who or what we really are and where we're going with our lives. Often this search for identity presents a challenge to young people.
Not long ago Harper's Magazine quoted a college teacher as saying her freshman students "were motivated by a pathetic desire to please everyone; ... they wanted to become 'like other people,' to be indistinguishable from the group. They were 'yes' students."
But there's another side to it too. Young people sometimes rebel pretty strongly against conformity in an effort to find themselves. But neither conformity nor rebellion really gets down to fundamentals. Something more is needed. What is the answer to this dilemma?
