About seven years ago it was my privilege to experience the truth of Mrs. Eddy's statement in Science and Health that "trials are proofs of God's care" (p. 66).
One October I became aware of a growth with accompanying pain in the breast. In order to conquer fear and be more firmly grounded in my understanding of God's allness, I had three talks with a consecrated and spiritually-minded practitioner. Then I wanted to see the healing brought about through my own study.
When the pain presented itself I would, aloud and vehemently, plead God's allness and man's oneness, or unity, with infinite good. One day while I was studying in a Christian Science Reading Room my attention was drawn to page 242 of the textbook, Science and Health, where we read, "In patient obedience to a patient God, let us labor to dissolve with the universal solvent of Love the adamant of error,—self-will, self-justification, and self-love,—which wars against spirituality and is the law of sin and death."
