During my childhood we had neighbors who were Christian Scientists, and I would sometimes borrow copies of the Christian Science periodicals to read. During my college days I was led to pick up a sample copy of the Sentinel which had been placed in a distribution box in a beauty shop where I was getting a permanent wave. Later I subscribed to the periodicals and would read them during my lunch hour at work.

But it was after my marriage that I was really awakened to the necessity of deep and consecrated study of Science. When studying the Lesson-Sermon, to be found in the Quarterly, one morning, these words from Proverbs caught my attention (4:13): "Take fast hold of instruction." I immediately got in touch with a teacher of Christian Science, with whom I had class instruction the same year.

A year or so ago, with the help of the prayers of a Christian Science practitioner, I was healed of concussion resulting from an automobile accident. A physical examination required for insurance purposes revealed the concussion, but I informed the doctor I wanted only Christian Science treatment, I was also healed of laryngitis within three days, and on another occasion the healing of influenza, with the help of a practitioner, brought me a sense of inspiration and joy that I had not had before.
