I shall always be grateful to the dear sister who introduced Christian Science to me about thirty years ago by giving to me an extra copy she had of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. In those days I was frustrated and emotionally upset most of the time. Although I knew nothing of Science and did not become really familiar with the book my sister had given to me, I found comfort and release when I read from it during periods of stress.

A few years later I became afflicted with severe rheumatism. At this time I enrolled our two children in a Christian Science Sunday School, and the superintendent, seeing my distress, lovingly offered to help me. She came to our home when my need was greatest, and she continued to help me during the whole experience. She showed me how to study the Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly and referred me to helpful passages in Science and Health.

The way was not easy, and one day, when my study seemed of no avail and I was desperate, mortal mind whispered, "What's the use?" I decided to give up my study and laid down Science and Health with the intention of reading no more. But when I stopped studying, the symptoms became more intense, and I knew without a doubt that my study had been relieving them; so I quickly picked the book up again and continued studying avidly.
