I always loved the Bible and the early religious teaching I received which established my faith, although it did not give me an understanding of God. In 1932 a copy of the Sentinel was given to me by a dear friend. In it I read this quotation from the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 113): "There is no pain in Truth, and no truth in pain."
Shortly after this I experienced severe pain and the symptoms of food poisoning. The thought came to me, "Christian Science heals," and I remembered the above statement by Mrs. Eddy. So I reasoned that since man actually lives in Truth and there is no pain there, he cannot have any. The healing was instantaneous. From then on, I studied Christian Science. I obtained the textbook, started to attend a branch church, and enrolled my four children in the Sunday School.
I am grateful for many subsequent healings in Science, including those of a sprained ankle, a sprained thumb, cuts, colds, and burns. I have experienced protection in accidents and the healing of grief at the passing on of loved ones.
