If there is any moral and spiritual education going on within us, such as gives value to human personality, it is evident not only that the process is unfinished with any one of us when death comes, but also that it should never have been begun, if it was destined to end after a few years.

The eager expectation of a new life beyond death stands out on page after page of the New Testament. ... Christ by His Resurrection has turned surmise into certitude: on the one hand personal certitude about death and the victory achieved over it, the Kingdom of heaven open to all believers; on the other hand, cosmic certitude about the nature of reality, the spirituality of the universe, the sovereignty of God.
