Christian Science gave me immeasurable...

Christian Science gave me immeasurable help in meeting and mastering sorrow when two members of my family passed on. On the first occasion the shock was sudden, and the struggle to rise above it was severe. I continued to search the Bible and the writings of our Leader and to study prayerfully. The first relief came with the desire to help another who was also seeking an understanding of God's allness. Gradually it became very clear to me that man, the expression of divine Life, cannot die and that grief and separation are entirely without divine authority.

This verse from the Bible was a staff upon which I leaned and from which I derived great comfort and confidence (Matt. 26: 53): "Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?" My desire to abide by the absolute teaching of Science led me to the firm conviction that I would never again need to repeat the struggle I had gone through.

As a consequence, when my husband passed on five years later, after many years of happy companionship, I was able at once to realize the unreality of death. Many sustaining statements of truth came to my thought; and I did not stand in awe of death, nor was I devastated by it. I am grateful for the statement Mrs. Eddy makes in Science and Health (p. 250), "Science reveals Life as not being at the mercy of death, nor will Science admit that happiness is ever the sport of circumstance."
