When healing the man sick...

When healing the man sick with palsy, Jesus said, "Man, thy sins are forgiven thee" (Luke 5: 20). Likewise, after healing the impotent man, Jesus said, "Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come into thee" (John 5:14). In both these instances the malady was clearly associated with sin, or wrong thinking. Christian Science, which accords with Bible teachings, shows that sickness is oftentimes the result of wrong thinking.

For several years I was burdened with a great sense of self-righteousness and self-will. I was extremely unhappy and could find no solution for a problem in human relationships that existed in my home. This culminated in extreme nervousness and heart trouble. Fear engulfed me. I was afraid to leave my home or to go to bed. Many times it seemed as if I were passing on.

I asked for help from a practitioner, who steadfastly refuted the error and affirmed the perfection of man and the healing presence of the Christ. Day and night the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy were literally my companions. The twenty-third Psalm, the Lord's Prayer, the ninety-first Psalm, and certain affirmations of truth from the textbook I pondered over and over again in my attempt to realize the power and presence of God.
