William Standish Reed, M.D. in Sharing, journal of the Fellowship of St. Luke San Diego, California
Man is beset on every side by a multitude of conflicts and anxieties which he is unable to face with his own resources. If he is a materialist either in or out of the church he will probably obtain a materialist remedy and will launch out into or be launched by someone else into a non-spiritual answer to his problem which is never a solution to it and never will be.
... Many diseases which result from a lack of inner tranquility are a direct result of sin or rebellion against God. Many of our psychological and psychosomatic, illnesses fall in this category. I am certain that every disease has its spiritual component which has been to a great extent overlooked and completely neglected by physicians and by the clergy up to this point except in a few enlightened situations.
