When my son was young, I was led to investigate Christian Science. There was a branch church about two blocks from our home, and I enrolled the boy in the Sunday School and attended the services myself. However, for some three years I did not really understand the healing power of this religion. Once a month, on the average, I would call a doctor to attend my son for a stomach upset, a fever, or a cold, and I continued to use medicine.

My boy's Sunday School teacher pointed out the importance of his having a copy of the Christian Science textbook. Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and so I purchased one for him. However, it did not occur to me to study it myself or to bin the Quarterly, in which our Bible Lessons are outlined. I knew no Scientists except those with whom I became casually acquainted at church.

Although at times I understood little of what I heard at the church services, I very much enjoyed the sense of purity and joy I received there; and it was during this period that I was given an opportunity to teach school, a career which gave me greater joy than an work which I had done before.
