Moments Turned into Blessings

Those who have the privilege of serving in a Christian Science Reading Room are grateful for increasing evidence of the healing mission of this important church activity. Main healings reported are often initiated through the uplifted thought and loving encouragement of the librarian, who welcomes every opportunity to help the visitor become aware of his present spiritual selfhood as the child of God. Healing and comfort are the logical results of applying the truth of God and man, expressed in the writings of our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, as in the following statement: "We should measure our love for God by our love for man; and our sense of Science will be measured by our obedience to God,—fulfilling the law of Love, doing good to all; imparting, so far as we reflect them, Truth, Life, and Love to all within the radius of our atmosphere of thought" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 12).

The following experiences substantiate the truth of this statement:

A woman who was suffering from a badly sprained wrist came to a Reading Room. She was fearful about losing her job, because she needed the use of her hands in her work. As she kept looking at the physical condition, the attendant was led to quote our Leader's statement in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 261), "Look away from the body into Truth and Love, the Principle of all happiness, harmony, and immortality." The woman was encouraged to spend a few moments in quiet study. When she came from the study room, the fear had been overcome. She returned the next day, free and happy, to express her gratitude for the Reading Room.
