When Christian Science was presented to me, I was going through an emotional disturbance that had affected my digestion and eyesight, and medical help afforded no relief. The opportunity to stay with a friend who was a student of Science came to me, and from the first night in her home I was able to eat normally—the digestive disturbance had left me completely. The eye condition yielded more slowly; but it also was healed in about two weeks through her prayerful help and my own study of the Bible, together with "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. This was in 1947, and since then God has been my only physician.

We have had many healings in our home during these years, but the one that has meant the most to me took place when our son was eight years old. I had gone to another city for the wonderful experience of class instruction in Christian Science and had left the child with my parents, who were not Scientists. A lump appeared in the boy's throat, and his grandmother, feeling fearful and not knowing what else to do, took him to a physician. The condition was diagnosed as either cancer or a cyst that would eventually choke him, and an immediate operation was strongly recommended.

When I received this report, I felt no fear but knew that the condition would be healed through Christian Science treatment alone. A practitioner was called, and her loving, prayerful support was given throughout the experience. The members of my family persisted in accepting the medical view and feared the dire consequences that would result if the child did not go through with the operation. However, the spiritual truths I had learned during the period of class instruction were there for proving. A fuller understanding of man as the embodiment of God's ideas had come to me and was persistently applied to my thought of the child.

At times fear tried to overwhelm me because of the constant inquiries of my family, but it was always allayed by the practitioner. In approximately one month the healing was complete. Two years later the child had to undergo a medical examination prior to attending a summer camp, and no evidence was found that this condition had ever existed. I shall be forever grateful to God for this healing and for Mrs. Eddy.

Membership in The Mother Church and a branch church has been a wellspring of gratitude to me, for this is truly "a church designed to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing" (Historical Sketch.
