About thirty-five years ago I learned of Christian Science at a time when I was greatly enfeebled by years of almost constant headaches. In addition, I suffered severely from a stomach and intestinal disorder which was almost unbearable.

In my distress I prayed to God. Soon afterwards some dear friends gave me a copy of The Herald of Christian Science (German Edition). Although I was very weak, I immediately began to read it because I was told that this gift was God-inspired.

It was difficult for me to read, for I could neither move my head nor lift my eyelids without pain. Most of the time I had to lie down, and it was only for minutes at a time that I was able to stand and walk.

My two children, then ten and thirteen years of age, helped me by reading aloud to me from the Bible and the Herald. Slowly but hopefully I gathered new strength and the desire to live. Fear abated, and I began to regain control of my body. One day a copy of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, was given to me. I was overjoyed, for I had no money with which to buy one myself.

With great confidence I continued to study earnestly. My understanding increased slowly, but, despite everything, I could feel God, Love, near me; and tenderly and powerfully the still small voice of Truth, which heals, was made manifest to me.

Encouraged by the words of Isaiah (41:10), "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of myrightousness," I read the Lesson-Sermon, outlined in the Quarterly, with greater joy each day. Not long afterward, while reading, I felt a great sense of physical relief, and I began to improve more rapidly.

From that time on, I kept strict watch over my thinking, and whenever I was tempted to let error in, I strove to dwell in Mind and reject mentally everything opposed to good. I clung to these words on page 215 of the textbook: "Whatever is governed by God, is never for an instant deprived of the light and might of intelligence and Life."

Soon I was completely free of fear, uneasiness, and all that depressed me an was in normal health. Today I am well, happy, and free. I am supplied with all that is beautiful and good, and I lack nothing. God has restored through Christian Science that which was lost.

With a humble heart I am a joyous member of The Mother Church. My desire for class instruction was fulfilled in a wonderful way. I am grateful to all the dear friends and practitioners who with loving patience helped me find the narrow way.
