I had the privilege of coming into Christian Science as a girl in my teens. My mother's dearest friend had been healed of a large abdominal tumor after the medical profession had almost lost hope of being able to save her life. I subsequently learned that she was healed of extremely weak eyesight at the same time. A couple of years later, when I visited her home, she showed me a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and said that the book taught one to heal as Jesus healed. I realized that this was the most precious ability one could have and soon bought myself a copy of the book.

My mother paid no attention to my steady attendance at the Christian Science church services held in our community. But one day she learned from a neighbor that I had testified about a healing of a severe toothache which I had experienced. My testifying annoyed my family greatly. My copy of Science and Health was taken away, and I was forbidden further association with Christian Science. Not until after my marriage was I able to continue my study of it.

I am grateful that from the beginning of my married life I had Science to help me in the rearing of our three daughters. They all attended Sunday School until they were twenty, availed themselves of the spiritually fortifying experience of class instruction in their young womanhood, and early became active members of The Mother Church and of branch churches. All were members of Christian Science college organizations.
