I was first brought into Christian Science through the healing of our son of chronic eczema and a severe case of worms. Some time later, when we were on holiday, the boy became very ill. He was then about eight years old. We decided to go back home, and when we arrived there, my husband, not being interested in Christian Science, sent for a physician, who, when he came, ordered the boy to a hospital for an immediate operation for appendicitis.

At the hospital the authorities asked my husband to sign a form giving his consent to the operation, but I asked him to wait till the next day; he agreed to do this. We stayed with the boy until midnight, and then early the next morning I got in touch with a Christian Science practitioner, who realized that I was full of fear. She talked to me in such a way that when I left her I felt quite calm, and my husband and I went to the hospital right away.

Again the doctor asked my husband to sign the form giving his consent to the operation. But at my request he did not sign it. The doctor was apprehensive about what would happen to the child, but I knew the practitioner was working prayerfully for him. I do not know exactly how soon the healing took place, but the doctor was amazed when he saw the child again. He was in normal health and soon came home, having received no medication while he was in the hospital.
