Through the generosity of Mrs. Selina C. Cornish over six hundred Christian Science churches have benefited financially during the past twenty years. The Selina G. Cornish Fund was established to assist in building churches in small towns.
Mrs. Cornish, although not herself a Christian Scientist, had been favorably impressed by the lives of Christian Scientists. In her will, it is stated:
"...I believe that the people who are studying Christian Science and the Bible in connection with the teachings of Mary Baker Eddy are living exceptionally good lives, and are bearing exceptionally well all the sorrows and sufferings that come to them, and by their goodness and example are making less the evils that come into the world through sin. I believe, therefore, that this donation, limited to the smaller communities and the more modest edifices, will be uplifting in its effect and help to accomplish my desire to benefit humanity."
