Through this testimony I wish to express my deep gratitude to God for His goodness and blessing. Some years ago I was very ill. I had worked for forty years as a miner underground and had contracted a severe lung condition. All medical aid had failed, and in 1949 I was pronounced disabled.

I had also suffered for seven years from an open wound in one leg. It was getting continually worse. At times of distress and despair I turned to alcohol and drank a bottle of liquor every two days. Finally my wife said, "You can't go on like this!" And she asked me if she should request a Christian Science practitioner to help me. I agreed at once.

I talked for a long time with this Scientist, and she explained to me that there is no law of punishment for honest work and faithfulness to duty and that in reality there are no so-called occupational or any other diseases. She assured me that both the lung condition and the wound in my leg could be healed through Christian Science treatment.
