It is over thirty years since I first recognized Christian Science as the answer to my prayers; it was the religion I had longed for from the time I was a child of twelve. An acquaintance referred me to this Science when I told her that a physician had advised some downright good old-fashioned religion for a member of my family as the answer to a nervous breakdown caused by distress at the sudden onset of tuberculosis. I attended a Wednesday evening testimony meeting at a branch church, and from the moment I entered the church I felt God's presence.

I had proof that I had really found the truth that heals when my eight-year-old daughter was healed of severe croup overnight after I had read for several hours from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Although I did not fully understand what I was reading, it sounded so logical and reasonable that I read without any sense of time and retired with great peace and confidence. All was well with my daughter the next morning.

For two years after that I studied the Bible and everything pertaining to Christian Science, because a practitioner told me that I needed to gain understanding in order to demonstrate the spirit of Science.
