The Ark of Safety
We experience safety when we maintain a scientific consciousness of our inseparability from God and are obedient to divine direction. This is one of the helpful lessons to be gleaned from the colorful narrative of Noah (see Genesis, Chapters 6-8).
Noah's experience enables us to think of "ark" in terms of safety, protection, preservation. As such, ark becomes to us the symbol of Church, in which are to be found God's gracious provisions for our protection from the claims of mortality.
Mrs. Eddy defines "ark" on page 581 of Science and Health. Part of this definition reads, "God and man coexistent and eternal; Science showing that the spiritual realities of all things are created by Him and exist forever." Man, coexisting with God, is no more subject to destruction than is God, and the eternality of Life extends to every manifestation of God.
